The motors stop, the anchors set, its halibut fishing time and your in the thick of things to come. The deck hands have the rods ready, hooks baited and it’s time to get started with the days fishing. Shortly after your bait reaches bottom things begin to happen. Your pole flexes in a tight, heavy arc. You feel your heart pound as beads of perspiration begin to form on your forehead. With the hooks set deeply into the jaws of something deep below you, the task of pumping and reeling for what seems an eternity begins. What is it, a halibut? Maybe it’s a ling cod or a big skate. I have heard there are salmon sharks a plenty in these waters too. You glimpse fate; a nice slab begins to take shape below. That great Seward halibut you've struggled with so long and hard for is finally reaching the surfacing. You maneuver the monster in close to the side of the boat as the deckhand's prepares the gaff. Moments later, you've landed that long awaited trophy halibut and experienced one of life's most unforgettable experiences, a day on the water with a Seward Halibut Charter. Flashes continue as everyone photographs the lucky angler and his Alaskan trophy. This is a typical scenario for a day on the halibut charters of most all Alaskan waters.
